City of Los Angeles · SCEP readinessCA contractor license #1108551

After inspection · Written violations

Failed an LAHD SCEP inspection? Build the correction plan from the written order.

A verbal comment is not a complete scope. Use the issued document, compliance date and cited locations to route repairs, specialty work, permits and owner follow-up before reinspection.

Do not miss appeal or compliance instructions

Only LAHD can interpret, modify or close its order. If an item, location or deadline is unclear, contact the inspector or agency using the information on the document before authorizing work based on assumptions.

01

Capture each cited item exactly

Create a line-by-line register using the language, unit or area, case information and compliance date shown on the order. Keep questions separate from the scope already understood.

  • Cited condition and exact location.
  • Agency instruction or referenced correction.
  • Deadline and reinspection information.
  • Owner question requiring LAHD clarification.

02

Route the work instead of bundling it

A single order can mix maintenance, electrical, plumbing, structural, environmental and unapproved-construction issues. The licensed and permit requirements for those items are not interchangeable.

  • Direct repair or replacement.
  • Licensed specialty trade.
  • Design-professional or testing need.
  • Permit, record or legalization issue.

03

Investigate causes, not only surfaces

Paint can cover a stain without correcting a leak. A patched finish can hide continued deterioration. When the cited condition suggests an underlying source, the correction scope should address that source and document the basis for the repair.

  • Active leak or moisture source.
  • Failed component behind recurring damage.
  • Unsafe installation or missing protection.
  • Prior alteration that changed the approved condition.

04

Document completed corrections

Keep dated photographs, invoices, permits when required and a location-based status list. Documentation helps the owner manage the case but does not itself prove that LAHD will accept or close an item.

  • Before and after photographs by location.
  • Contractor and trade records.
  • Permit and inspection records when applicable.
  • Open items awaiting access, parts, plans or agency direction.

05

Prepare for reinspection without making promises

Recheck access and visible conditions before the City returns. Confirm the official reinspection process directly with LAHD and continue tracking any item that cannot be completed within the original timeframe.

  • Make corrected areas accessible.
  • Keep the order and correction file available.
  • Confirm which items remain open.
  • Use only LAHD’s written direction for case closure.
